About Professor Slotegraaf
Professor Rebecca Slotegraaf has been a faculty member at the Kelley School of Business since 2000. Her commitment toward furthering diversity at Kelley includes her involvement in the Marketing DEI committee, the Kelley School of Business DEI committee, and the search committee for the new Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging.
When Professor Slotegraaf joined the Marketing Department, she was just one of two female faculty. Over the past 20 years, she has witnessed and helped drive many changes in the department. As one recent example, Professor Slotegraaf helped develop the Mentorship Program within the Marketing Department. This opportunity pairs a new faculty member with a senior faculty member to help navigate various aspects related to teaching, research, service, and the culture of the department, school, and university.
Diversity in the Classroom
Professor Slotegraaf teaches at the undergraduate, MBA, and PhD level within the Kelley School. In the classroom, Professor Slotegraaf promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion through specific business cases and classroom discussions. She motivates students to share their unique opinions because she believes when diverse perspectives emerge, it promotes a richer conversation. She finds that positive reinforcement increases student involvement in the discussion by allowing for their thoughts to be shared.
Professor Slotegraaf supports DEI in the classroom and numerous committee positions here at the Kelley School of Business. She believes, “A group of people will always be stronger when they are coming from different perspectives and can openly share these perspectives. It makes for a strong culture because people appreciate being in an environment where they feel that they belong.”
